Unplanned Jorts Hiking

On Sunday, the group went out to see the Earth Pyramids. It was definitely on my radar as it was a easy to get to.

Earth Pyaramids : They formed from melting Ice Age Glaciers with left behind clay. Heave rain washes away the loose unprotected clay and the large boulders on top are embedded into the clay but serve the purpose of as protective caps to the clay below. The protected clay stays dry and becomes dry and hard and creates these tall pillars over thousands of years. Once the protective caps fall off, they quickly erode and was away.

Thinking it was going to be an easy day, I put on my jeans and tee, small backpack and a little water. Ha. Plans change. The dudes in the group decided this was too easy of a hike so we needed to get strenuous. 6 miles later, I’ve rolled up my jeans into jorts, drank all my water, I have no energy b/c I didn’t have much breakfast and I’m f-ing HOT. I was not in a great mood. Depleted. We finally stopped and had some water at a hut restaurant so I was able to refuel and cool down. Urghhh. I would have loved the hike if I had been prepared for it.

This is where we walked through private property and saw there meticulous wood stacking skills, massive cows with bells (so they can find them in the woods), To get to this area, you have to ride a gondola 🚠 up and then get on a little train which is all included on this visitors card you receive for public transportation when you stay in Bolzano.

After the crazy 6 mile hike, we took yet another gondola ride and went to another top of the mountain hut (this place is a ski area) and had some food and drinks. The view was the best yet! Oh my, I’ve never seen a view quite like this 360º. With tired legs, but strength regained, we headed back down on the gondola, on a bus, back on the train, back on the other gondola and back to Bolzano.
